EN – SOCFIN PRESS RELEASE (10/12/2013)

SOCFIN REGRETS THE UNCORRECT AND UNVERIFIED REPORT ON THE EVENTS THAT TOOK PLACE IN SIERRA LEONE ON TUESDAY.

  1. The current development project in the Malen chiefdom, is conducted with the full support and approval from Government of Sierra Leone, traditional local leaders and land users.
  2. Compensation for the land lease are paid during public meetings, in compliance with the laws and regulations in force in Sierra Leone. The land users receive all necessary information and are free to participate or not in the project (if they do not wish to give their land, they are free to continue theirs operations).
  3. The Socfin project employs today more than 4,000 Sierra Leoneans staff (workers, technical staff, senior management) and carries out important rural, social and industrial infrastructure in a intensely demanding area. It responds to Sierra Leone demand to improve food self-sufficiency of the country.
  4. Socfin confirms that to his knowledge that no people were injured during the demonstration which took place early in the week.

SOCFIN REGRETTE LE COMPTE-RENDU INEXACT, ET DONT LES SOURCES N’ONT PAS ÉTÉ VÉRIFIÉES, CONCERNANT LES MANIFESTATIONS QUI SE SONT DÉROULÉES AU SIERRA LEONE CE MARDI.

  1. Le projet de développement en cours dans la région de Malen, se fait avec l’accord et le support total du Gouvernement du Sierra Leone, des responsables locaux traditionnels et des occupants des terrains.
  2. Des compensations sont versées pour l’utilisation des terrains par le projet, lors de séances publiques, en accord avec les lois et les règlementations en vigueur au Sierra Leone. Les occupants des terrains disposent de toutes les informations nécessaires et ont toute liberté de participer ou non au projet (s’ils ne souhaitent pas apporter leurs terrains, ils ont la liberté de continuer à l’exploiter).
  3. Le projet Socfin emploie à ce jour 4 000 Sierra Léonais (ouvriers, personnel technique et personnel d’encadrement) et réalise d’importants travaux d’infrastructures agricole, sociale et industrielle dans une région en forte demande. Il répond à un souci du Sierra Leone d’améliorer l’autosuffisance alimentaire du pays.
  4. Socfin confirme qu’à sa connaissance il n’a été déploré aucune victime lors de la manifestation qui s’est déroulée en début de semaine.
